Cross Country Week in Review

For the last week of the regular season, the Colerain Cross Country teams traveled to Centerville, Ohio to attend the Centerville Stampede. The constant raining from the week before had left the course completely muddy, with some stretches have mud ankle-deep or worse. The high school varsity races, too, were the final races out of twelve on the day, and many runners were recovering from sickness, leading to very slow times for all athletes. The teams, however, braved the adversity and still put together good performances at the end of the season. The girl's team finished 6th as a team. Top individual performances included senior Kristen Wells, who finished 12th overall and lead the team with a 20:55, as well as junior Marisel Lopez who finished 30th with a time of 21:41. Finishing 39th overall was junior Stacey Sulken with a time of 22:00. The boy's team finished 2nd overall in their competition. The team was lead by a great front pack of senior Jeffrey Denny (8th overall with a time of 17:34), junior Craig Sulken (9th, 17:36) and sophomore Erik Tomczewski (11th, 17:42). Senior Zach Burt (21st, 18:11) also ran a very good race to help carry the team. The boy's team is currently ranked 7th in the city and 20th in the state. Next week both teams will begin postseason competition with the Greater Miami Conference Championships.
