Colerain Football hits Primetime!!

Colerain will get more TV coverage this year than any other Cincinnati High School football team. The Cardinals, as has already been reported, are slated to take on Elder in week 2 of the season at the Pit on one of the networks in the ESPN family. National coverage...check!

Just announced today, the Cards will also be televised for week 5's contest against Hamilton @ Hamilton on FSN Ohio. That game has been moved to Thursday 9/25 @ 7:05 PM. Regional Coverage...check!

Also, the week 9 matchup pitting the Cardinals against last year's "super spoiler" Middletown will be televised locally on Fox 19. This game is being moved to Saturday October 24 at a time TBD. It could end up being that our Cardinals are the local lead in to the World Series game that FOX currently has schedule for that evening. Local coverage...check!

WeAreColerain.com would like to extend our congrats to the Athletic Office at Colerain and all those involved who made this possible. These kids will really enjoy the experience of having their play broadcast for thousands to see.

Well done and LET'S GO CARDINALS! Only 60 days to the Showdown with St. Xavier.

New Leaders installed for Cross Country and Boys Bowling

Just announced today from the office of Athletic Director Dan Bolden:

Debbie Potzner has been appointed Head Coach of the Boy’s Bowling Team. Debbie will perform the dual role as head coach of the boy’s and girl’s teams. She comes to the program with a passion for bowling and for kids. Her job will be growing the program into one of total program commitment not only during the season but building and growing during the off-season.

Mark Bierkan has been hired as the new Head Coach for Cross Country. Mark is a Colerain grad and looks to place his own stamp on the program. He will soon be naming his two new assistant coaches as the program begins its next level of growth.

WeAreColerain.com would like to congratulate both Coach Potzner and Coach Bierkan on their expanded and new responsibilites! Leading the young men and women of Colerain athletics is not an easy task and expectations are very high but no question, these two are fit for the job.

Colerain Softball racks up the awards!

And why shouldn't she jump for joy?
On the heels of Colerain Baseball star Nick Priessman being named the Northwest Press Sportsmen of the year award, the accolades continue for Colerain Athletics. WeAreColerain.com is happy to report to our readers that Colerain Softball Ace hurler Emily Schwaeble was selected as the Cincinnati Enquirer's Division I Softball Player of the Year!
(Photo courtesy of the Cincinnati Enquirer)

Emily's stats are well documented and her achievements on the field will be remembered for a very long time in the Colerain Softball Family. Below are some excerpts from the Enquirer from the Enquirer on Emily:
"Schwaeble surpassed 1,096 career strikeouts in early May. She finished the season with a 20-8 record, 364 strikeouts, 12 shutouts and a 0.55 ERA in 1911/3 innings. She was Division I first-team all-state and first-team all-Greater Miami Conference.
Schwaeble, who has committed to play at Northern Kentucky University, helped the Cardinals to their first state final four appearance.

'I think she is such a competitor," Colerain coach Susan Dayton said. "Nothing bothers her. ... She just won't quit; she literally plays until the last out or last strike.' "

And the PDF of the Enquirer Page: http://news.cincinnati.com/assets/AB137342624.PDF

Emily will go down as one of the greatest athletes in Colerain history and arguably the greatest female athlete to ever walk the halls of CHS.
WeAreColerain.com enjoyed watching Emily immensely and wish her the very best of luck in her future at Division II softball powerhouse Northern Kentucky University next season.
Joining Emily in the awards parade was Senior SS Andy Amrein who was selected Division I 1st Team All City. Andy had an incredible season as she helped lead her teammates to the State Final Four! Way to go Andy!
And if that were not enough...the architecht of this incredible season, Coach Susan Dayton was selected as the Division I Softball Girls Coach of the Year! WOW!!!
No question the bar has been permanently raised at 8801 Cheviot Road but I venture to guess that is exactly the way we want it.
Congratulations Cardinals!

Schedule Tidbits: The Rumor Mill

As of this moment the Dupont Manuel game is still slated for the Friday after the Sunday tilt with Elder. No official word about a possible shift to Saturday other than to say that negotiations continue.

The Rumor Mill also has caught wind that the Colerain versus Middletown game could be moved to Saturday night 10/24 to accommodate a possible shift to the game being broadcast on television. Though WeAreColerain.com could not confirm if this is true, we were told that there was a possible change in the schedule to be announced at a later date.
