Colerain Boys Junior Varsity

The Colerain Boys Junior Varsity opened up the 2009 season by hosting Walnut Hills. In the first half of the game, Colerain was able to generate numerous shots on goal. Several shots were taken by Joe Flohr, Jon Armbruster and Nick Kruse had one bounce off the goal post. Colerain’s defense played really well not letting Walnut Hills get a shot off inside the Colerain 18 yard line. The first half ended with a score of 0-0. The beginning of the second half was pretty much status quo. However, with about 22 minutes left in the game Walnut Hills was able capitalize on a free kick, about 25 yards out, hitting a mid-fielder making a run down the center of the field. The mid-fielder was able to finish the ball giving Walnut Hills a 1-0 lead. Colerain came close to scoring a few more times but the clock ran out, ending the game with a 1-0 loss.

Colerain Boys Varsity

The Colerain Boys Varsity kicked off the 2009 season hosting Walnut Hills in what would prove to be an exciting game. The first half of the game was played at a very fast pace. Colerain’s defense did a great job of keeping Walnut Hills out, and keeping the ball pushed forward. Colerain’s offense worked the ball well generating many shots. The first half ended with a score of 0-0. With about 24 minutes left in the second half Walnut Hills was able to put together a drive that would score a goal, giving Walnut Hills a 1-0 lead. The goal was questioned by Colerain as to whether it actually crossed the goal line or not, but the Line Judge was right there and made the call. The game would start to get a little more physical from this point forward. With about 14 minutes left in the game, Colerain’s offense was able to work the ball down the side allowing Ben Mikkelson to make a nice cross that Mike Davidson was able to finish, tying the game at 1-1. Mitch Stehlin, Ben Mikkelson and Gulet Ahmad got a few more shots off before the whistle was blown ending the game at a 1-1 tie.
