Colerain High School-

It would have been understandable if the Cardinals were ripe for a let down in their game against Hamilton on Wednesday night. Afterall the Cardinals were coming off a tough loss to number 2 ranked Lakota West on Saturday and the Big Blue are in the midst of a down year and came into the game with a 1-7 record. Easy to overlook this game and continue to dwell on the West game? No chance. The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead and never looked back as they downed the Big Blue 65-38.
Colerain (9-2, 4-2 GMC) showed incredible patience and unselfishness on the offensive end and finished the game with 19 assists as a team with only 6 turnovers. "We had two great days of practice this week and the girls were really focused on the game plan" said Colerain coach, Christi Mack. "I was really impressed with our ability to distribute the ball and rebound at both ends of the court" Indeed, rebounding was a big part of the Cardinals dominance as Colerain held a +12 advantage (45-33) in that department. Depth also played into the favor of Colerain who had 8 players log 10 minutes or more and had five players score 8 or more points. "I was fortunate enough to get everyone in tonight and we had some great play off the bench from Junior Tevin Andrews, Freshman Abby Feuchter and Freshman Kristen Thompson. Senior Kelly Bolden also pitched in with a season and career high 7 rebounds."

Colerain is currently ranked fourth in the City and sports a roster of talent that has three freshman playing on Varsity and another four freshman playing on the JV. With another young team feeling out the growing pains of life in the GMC in Lakota East coming up this weekend, Coach Mack was already back at work concentrating on her team's next opponent. "Next road game will be a tough one. Lakota East plays a lot of young kids who really play hard. If we continue to "Do What We Do" best, then I think things will fall into place. We can only worry about the things we can control which is our effort on defense, valuing each possession and rebounding the basketball."

If you haven't seen this team play, do yourself a favor and go check them out. They are a good, well coached basketball team that has talent to compete deep into March. They could use the support!
