Interception Return Ignites Cardinals to 60th Straight GMC Win!

Nicholas Priessman stepped in front of Casey Maclean's pass in the left flat late in the 3rd quarter Friday night and help spark Colerain to a 35-14 win over GMC foe Sycamore at The Cage. The final score does not indicate how close the game was through nearly three full quarters of football. Greg Tabar's 28 yard TD scamper put Colerain up 21-14 just three minutes after Maclean tied the score at 14 with a nifty 11 yard TD run of his own. With time winding down in the 3rd quarter Colin Lozier stuffed two Sycamore rushing attempts at the line of scrimmage forcing the Aviators into a 3rd and long situation and that is when Priessman provided the cushion that the Cardinals had been looking for all night. "It was huge momentum shift for us" said coach Bolden. "Our kids feed off the crowd and that play woke our crowd up".

Coach Bolden admitted that the wind storm and subsequent power outtages affected his team's preperation for the game. "We practiced, but there is no question we were out of our routine and I think that's why we were a little flat in the first half."

Three Colerain players broke the century mark in rushing on Friday. Crash Durham lead the Cardinal ground attack with 144. Tabar and Flash Williams contributed 103 and 102 respectively. The electrifying Bud Golden, the 2nd highly regarded college prospect Colerain's defense has faced in as many weeks, lead all rushers with 151 (a staggering 10.1 per carry average) that included a 35 yard TD run that saw the Illinois recruit outrace the Cardinal secondary into the endzone. All things considered, it was not one of Colerain's prettier efforts. But as coach Bolden addressed his team after the game he reminded his players what it means to face adversity and stare it down. "When you face it and work hard, you can whip it" a fired up coach told his team before breaking the huddle and send his kids off for the night.

Colerain hosts Mason next week at the Cage.
